The Process
How It Works
A novated lease is a way to pay for your car and its running costs using your pre-tax income, which in the eyes of the ATO reduces your total salary and therefore the amount of tax you pay. It sounds simple, but it’s a total game-changer. Here's how it works in three simple steps.
You + Your Vehicle
Found the car you want? Perfect. Now, instead of you paying for your car outright, you enter into a lease agreement for the car for a fixed period between 1 - 5 years.
You + Your Employer
An agreement is set up between you, your employer and us. Then, your deductions for the lease (including running costs too, if that's what you want) are made by your employer from your pre-tax income. And that reduces the income tax you pay each pay cycle. Plus, your deduction amount is fixed, so you know what you’re paying for your car each month.
You + Leaselab
With a direct line of communication through a dedicated relationship manager, we'll help you navigate any challenges right the way through your lease. Whether it's today or five years from now, we promise you’ll always have the same level of help and service all the way through to the end of your lease.

How does a novated lease for a BYD Atto 3 save me money?
A BYD Atto 3 novated lease saves you money through income-reducing pre-tax salary deductions, GST savings on the vehicle purchase price and running costs and potential fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemptions for electric vehicles. Your overall taxable income will be reduced, increasing your take-home pay every cycle - and you get to enjoy a sensational new Atto 3! Nice!
Can I use my BYD Atto 3 novated lease vehicle for personal use?
Yes. A novated lease for a BYD Atto 3 allows unrestricted personal use of your vehicle. You can enjoy the full benefits of your Atto 3 for work and personal travel, unlike some other financing options that impose limitations on usage.
What are the benefits of a novated lease for a BYD Atto 3?
A novated lease for a BYD Atto 3 delivers a ton of impressive benefits - and saving money is probably the one worth writing home about. With a BYD Atto 3 novated lease, you’ll make your regular lease payments from your pre-tax income, reducing your tax liability by using your full income for something you need (your car). This means you’ll pay less tax overall, putting more of your income back into your pocket. And if you bundle your vehicle-related expenses into your lease, you’ll reduce your taxable income even further.
You’ll also avoid paying GST on the purchase price and your running costs, and can take advantage of potential fringe benefits tax (FBT) exemptions for electric vehicles.
Other benefits include having access to fleet/wholesale vehicle pricing, the flexibility to make changes should the need arise, and the assurance of one predictable, regular payment that potentially covers all of your vehicle running costs in one.
What is the difference between the Standard and Extended Atto 3?
The key difference is battery size and range. The Standard packs a 49.92kWh battery for 345km range, while the Extended gets 60.48kWh for 420km. Both produce the same 150kW power and share identical equipment levels – heated seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging and that full suite of safety tech. The Extended costs $3,000 more but delivers that extra peace of mind for longer trips.
What are BYD Atto 3's biggest rivals?
The main competitors are the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric. The Atto 3 undercuts most rivals on price while matching or exceeding them on space and features, making it an exceptional value in the small electric SUV segment.
The BYD Atto 3 starts from $150 per week on a novated lease, making it one of the most affordable electric SUV options.
The MG ZS EV Long Range is priced from $153 per week, offering extended range at a similar weekly cost.
The Hyundai Kona Electric Standard Range comes in at $235 per week, positioned as a more premium compact EV choice.
The Renault Megane E-Tech Electric starts from $197 per week, combining European styling with practical performance in the mid-range price bracket.
How much does it cost to charge a BYD Atto 3 in Australia?
Home charging costs around 3-5 cents per kilometre, depending on your electricity rates. For the Extended model's 60.48kWh battery, a full charge from empty costs roughly $15-20 at home (using average rates of 25-30c per kWh). Public DC fast charging averages 8-15 cents per km.
Real-world consumption sits around 16.5kWh/100km, so you're looking at significantly lower running costs than any petrol equivalent - especially when bundled into your novated lease package and paid with pre-tax dollars.
Which is better, BYD Atto 3 or Tesla Model Y?
They serve different purposes.
- The Model Y is larger, faster and offers Tesla's Supercharger network advantage, but starts at significantly higher prices.
 - The Atto 3 delivers better value with generous small-SUV practicality, lower running costs and similar features for less.

For novated leasing, both qualify for FBT exemption, so your tax savings are comparable. It comes down to whether you need the extra size and performance of the Model Y, or prefer the Atto 3's superior value and lower monthly payments.
Can I get a novated lease on a BYD Atto 3 if I work for my own company?
Absolutely! Self-employed people and business owners can access novated leasing, though the setup differs slightly from traditional employees. You'll need to structure it through your company with appropriate payroll arrangements.
